Jeff Fleece is a principled Conservative Republican candidate for the Texas State Board of Education, District 10; he has demonstrated significant leadership abilities as a military officer and as a technology executive in the public and private sectors. Jeff recognized at an early age that a good education was the ticket to limitless opportunities in this great nation.
A product of public school, Jeff was honored to have countless teachers and committed parents who inspired him to achieve his dreams. Unfortunately, many of our public schools have become laboratories for failed liberal social experimentation based upon political correctness. As a member of the State Board of Education, Jeff will fight tirelessly to ensure that all schoolchildren in Texas receive a traditional, high-quality education to enable them to be productive citizen.
Jeff's Top Priorities
Back to the Basics: Jeff will continue to fight to protect traditional education standards that will ensure students learn the basic building blocks of productive citizenship. A solid education grounded in basic math, science, reading, writing, and social studies is vital for all. Politically correct social experiments have no place in the schoolhouse. In a highly-competitive global business environment, our students will only succeed if they have the necessary foundational skill, as well as the problem-solving abilities required for a challenging economic climate.
Vigorously Defend the Permanent School Fund: As a successful leader in the private sector, Jeff has a proven ability to make wise financial decisions and knows that fiscal discipline and accountability require constant vigilance. Jeff will never support raiding the Permanent School fund to finance short-term misadventures. Additionally, Jeff has demonstrated his successful stewardship of state resources while serving as a technology executive in state government; he will use this experience to ensure that the assets of the Permanent School Fund continue to grow in order to finance the textbook needs of future generations.
Local Control/Reject Obama Administration Standards: As a committed conservative, Jeff believes that most decisions are best made by those closest to the action. Under no circumstances will Jeff vote to permit the Obama Administration to influence the curriculum standards for the State of Texas. Jeff will work with the leaders of local school boards to ensure that they are empowered to make the necessary decisions to create productive, accountable learning environments.
Accountable Results: Jeff knows that you get the result you expect only when you inspect the process designed to deliver those results and continue to tune the process to deliver the desired outcome. In the real world, results really do matter. The accountability processes of our public schools should be rigorous, but they should complement the productive learning environment, not interfere with it. End-of-course exams are a great way to assess both the knowledge gained and the ability to retain information over a longer period of time. This methodology is more aligned with real-world expectation. Schools should not simply teach to a test, they should promote the desire to gain and retain knowledge.
Inspire All Students: Our public schools should not focus exclusively on preparing students for college. Many students have no desire to attend college and are motivated by learning key vocation skills that will ensure productive careers. We must encourage schools to continue investing in critical vocational courses that will stimulate and develop students who are not interested in attending college immediately following graduation.
